NATIVE HEALING SIERRAS

Long before wellness became an industry, the Comechingones—the original people of these central sierras—read the landscape as pharmacy. They knew which leaves calm anxiety, which roots clear fever, which flowers mend what breaks inside us. Their knowledge wasn't written in books. It was painted on rock faces in ochre and charcoal—symbols of sun worship, fertility, the cycles that govern all living things. Those paintings remain, silent testimony that healing has always been about remembering what the body already knows.
The air carries the scent of native aromatics—peperina, muña muña, poleo—herbs that grow wild in these granite highlands and have been brewed into healing teas for millennia. The streams that cut through the sierras run cold and clear, fed by spring considered sacred. To immerse in them isn't recreation. It's ritual. A washing away of what no longer serves.
The curanderas—traditional healers—still practice here, though their numbers thin with each generation. They work with plants gathered at specific moon phases, prepared in ways their grandmothers taught them, offered with prayers that survived the erasure. Their healing isn't alternative—it's original. The first medicine. What existed before we forgot that the earth provides what the body needs to return to balance.
In Córdoba's sierras, wellness isn't something you purchase. It's something that exists. The mountains don't heal you—they remind you how to heal yourself.
